Meal PreparationWe are serving more people than ever at Wheeler and need extra hands to help prepare meals. Tasks may range from chopping, mixing, stirring, creating, baking, and other cooking needs! Training will be provided on working in a commercial kitchen, safety, and more.Painting ProjectOn a daily basis, hundreds of men, women, and children seek meals, resources, and shelter at various Wheeler Mission locations. It is important that our facilities reflect an atmosphere of dignity, cleanliness, and that we are good stewards of what God has given us. From landscaping to carpentry to painting to maintenance.Share Closet OrganizationShopping in the Share Closet at the Center for Women & Children is uplifting and necessary for many guests. We aim to mirror a dignified shopping experience for the guests through decoration, organization, and engagement. The Share Closet Ambassador is responsible for the housekeeping and organizing of the clothing donations, creating a warm atmosphere to "shop"! The ambassador may also assist our guests in the choosing and styling of the clothes!HairstylistWe all know how a good haircut makes us feel - beautiful, confident, and unstoppable! Stylists are needed to put their learned skills of hair cutting and styling to use at the Center for Women & Children. Must be a licensed cosmotologist.Dental Clinic InfoWheeler relies on a strong network of Community Partnerships to ensure each man and woman's needs are getting met. While each residential site provides medical and dental services, Wheeler also has its own volunteer-run Medical & Dental Clinic at the Men's Residential Center. Dental Clinic volunteers provide basic dental care and treatment to residents which may include teeth cleaning, x-rays, tooth care or removal, and referrals to urgent care, a specialist or a community partner. Each clinic volunteer must present current documentation of licensure information.Donation TeamYou and your group can support all 3 locations in Bloomington by setting the foundation of the donations received at the Center for Women & Children! It is important that our facilities reflect an atmosphere of dignity, cleanliness, and that we are good stewards of what God has given us. From our clothing 'Share Closet' to canned goods your team can come once or reoccuring to help build the framework of our donation system! Wheeler Mission's Store + Donation Center is looking for individuals with hearts to serve and a love of road trips.Movie NightEnjoy a fun weekend activity fellowshipping with men in long-term programs at our Men's Residential Center through a family-friendly movie night. Men staying at this Center are in structured programming throughout the week and always look forward to unwinding on the weekends.On-Site Prayer WarriorsMaybe you don't have time to come volunteer for an extended period of time, but would welcome the opportunity to pray for us! We are searching for men, women, families & groups who would approach the throne of God on our behalf. We would welcome prayer over our parking lots, dorm areas, dining rooms, and more. This can be a one-time opportunity or an on-going basis.Work ProjectsOn a daily basis, hundreds of men, women, and children seek meals, resources, and shelter at various Wheeler Mission locations. It is important that our facilities reflect an atmosphere of dignity, cleanliness, and that we are good stewards of what God has given us. From landscaping to carpentry to painting to maintenance volunteers are needed to help with work projects.Medical Clinic InfoWhile each residential site provides medical services, Wheeler also has its own volunteer-run Medical Clinic at the Men's Residential Center. Medical Clinic volunteers provide basic medical care and treatment to residents which may include wellness check-up, sick visits, and referrals to urgent care, a specialist or a community partner. Our medical clinic needs the help of doctors, nurses practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and med students. Must be able to provide documentation of education, employment, professional certifications, licenses and insurance.Store + Donation CenterEach day, Wheeler Mission is blessed with a large amount of donations. By selling new and gently used items to the community, the Store helps fund life-changing programs. Volunteers sort, organize, and display donations alongside staff members. and other volunteers.Share A MealPartner with Wheeler Mission by providing a meal for our guests & residents through the Share A Meal program! Whether it is by dropping off a meal that you made at home or preparing a meal in our kitchen we would love to fellowship with you by sharing a meal. This is a huge blessing and encouragement for guests!BarberWe all know how a good haircut makes us feel - clean, confident, and professional! Barbers are needed to put their learned skills of hair cutting and styling to use at the Center for Men, the Men's Residential Center, and at the Shelter for Men. Must be a licensed barber or cosmotologist.Career DevelopmentReinforcing the message of hope, encouragement, and motivation through education can make a profound difference in someone's life. Volunteers assist guests with career development needs, which may include, but is not limited to: basic computer skill training, creating an email account, filling out job applications, reviewing resumes, developing interview skills, navigating job searches and communicating with possible employers.Kitchen LeaderKitchen Leader volunteers are the point of contact and leader for meal service volunteers, especially first-time volunteers. By greeting, leading, equipping, instructing, and facilitating tasks before, throughout and after the meal, Kitchen Leaders ensure a smoothly run meal, happy volunteers, and satisfied guests!HousekeepingOn a daily basis, hundreds of men, women, and children seek meals, resources, and shelter at various Wheeler locations. In order to help provide a safe environment, it is important that our facilities reflect an atmosphere of dignity and cleanliness. Volunteers help achieve making the Center shine by deep cleaning furniture, washing windows, mopping floors, and much more!Legal Clinic InfoWheeler relies on a strong network of Community Partnerships to ensure each man and woman's needs are getting met. One way we hope to accomplish this goal is through our own volunteer-run Legal Clinic at the Men's Residential Center. Legal Clinic volunteers advise our residents on next steps to take on a wide array of issues and answer any questions that our residents might have in regards to any pending legal cases.Food Services Driver Ride-AlongOur community generously donates food, beverages, and other items to our Food Services Department! This can be a big job and volunteers are needed to ride along with our staff to do pick-ups around Indianapolis. This is a great way to build relationships, represent Wheeler to our community, and do some lifting while you're at it!Recreation NightEnjoy a fun weekend activity fellowshipping with the ladies and children of the Center for Women & Children or with men at our Center for Men, Bloomington/Men's Residential Center. Recreation Night volunteers plan an activity or two, bring supplies, and then facilitate a time of games, movies, crafts, bingo, snacks, or even praise & worship...and much more!Praise & WorshipMusic and other art forms have the ability to uplift spirits, encourage hearts, and more importantly - praise God for who He is and what He has done. Praise & Worship events and others like it allow volunteers to provide a safe, relaxing, and encouraging environment and leading residents into a time of music, devotional, and praise.Building BridgesGod has blessed Wheeler Mission with nearly 300 acres outside of Morgan Monroe State Forest near Bloomington. This is where our Hebron Addiction Recovery program takes place, called Hunt Training Center. On this property is a small, beautiful body of water called Lazy Lake. Around the lake is prayer trail where men are encouraged to hike, pray, and be still in God's creation. Since it is heavily wooded, volunteers are needed to repair and build bridges!Prayer PartnerPrayer is one of the pillars that supports Wheeler Mission. We are searching for men and women who would come alongside the guests, staff and children to approach the throne of God on our behalf. How you help | Volunteering at Wheeler Mission means more than just giving time. It means feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, cherishing those often times forgotten, and sharing the love of Christ! Volunteers help us provide services at 9 locations and dozens of ministries. Wheeler is the largest and most diverse ministry of its kind in the state. |

About us | Wheeler Mission helps the homeless in Indiana. Wheeler is a non-denominational, Christian, social services organization, which provides critically needed goods and services to the homeless, poor, and needy of central Indiana without regard to race, color, sexual orientation, creed, national origin, or religion. We offer homeless services, residential programs, and addiction recovery programs for men and women. We also have enterprises - Wheeler Mission Thrift Store, Wheeler Mission Pallets & Industry, and Restored Creations - that help fund our programs. |
